Vesper Adest
Poetic Text by Andrea Moorhead
1. Vesper Adest
Vesper Adest et Spiritus,
in tenebris lux aeterna,
carmen reficiamus
terris incognitis
ubi patria nobis adest!
(Evening is near and the World Spirit,
In the darkness, eternal light,
Let us renew the song
With unknown lands,
Our homeland still with us!)
4. Lumen Accendimus
Lumen accendimus et animos,
Valles refulgent
Et carmen Luciferi ex tenebris
Ad resurgendum se comparat!
Vesper adest et Spiritus,
in tenebris lux aeterna,
carmen reficiamus
terris incognitis
ubi patria nobis adest!
(We have lit the torch
and kindled the mind,
the valley shines forth
as the Day Star’s song
prepares to rise from the darkness.
Evening is near and the World Spirit,
in the darkness, eternal light,
let us renew the song
2. Erase the Mind
erase the mind
petal by petal
stone by stone
twig by twig
and the ash around rises swiftly
green in the falling night.
all slips, falls, is scattered
and these hands are open to light
holding only the wind as it sears ice
and burns the ground,
all slips, falls, is scattered
and the blue cool dusk settles around.
3. But Twilight Always
but twilight always across the fields
lingers green in my heart,
the sun copper and snow across the valley,
the inner spirit, but rain and ice,
gloom and soft shadows
while night lingers within . . .
there are fires still by the river,
fires still on the hill
the shape of the valley from the rock
in my heart lingering as snow melts,
as dawn rises and a new green greets the day,
in great joy then and great peace
where evening has lingered
where crowds assemble
light a fire where limbs are cold,
raise a song, lift your voice,
come dance as the river runs more swiftly,
as the night clouds dissolve,
come greet the day with joy and hope
where the day still burns against new light!
